Platforms

Which Smart TV do you have?

The TV brand decides which app store you use and how activation works. Find yours below.

Samsung

Tizen

Player apps come from the Samsung Smart Hub app store. Several popular options use device-based activation, so note the MAC address or device key the app shows.

LG

webOS

Apps are installed from the LG Content Store. As on Samsung, some players link the subscription to the TV itself rather than to a username.

Android TV & Google TV

Sony, TCL, Hisense, Philips and others

The widest choice of player apps, installed from Google Play. Most sign in with a username and password or playlist URL.

Other systems

Older or less common platforms

If your TV’s app store has no suitable IPTV player, a streaming stick in the HDMI port is usually the fastest fix.

Setup

How to set up IPTV on a Smart TV

  1. Update the TV

    Install the latest system software from the TV settings menu. Older firmware is a common cause of apps failing to install or crashing.

  2. Install the player app

    Open your TV’s app store and search for the player support recommended for your brand.

  3. Sign in or activate

    Enter your login details, or send the MAC address or device key shown in the app to support on WhatsApp.

  4. Adjust the picture

    Play a channel and fine-tune the picture settings described below. Then test the programme guide.

Smart TV picture settings for IPTV

TVs ship with settings designed to look bright in a shop. Four changes make streamed video look noticeably more natural.

Setting Recommendation
Motion smoothing Turn off for films and series to avoid the “soap opera” look. Some people keep a low level for sport.
Picture mode Choose Movie, Cinema or Filmmaker mode for accurate colour instead of Vivid or Dynamic.
HDR Leave HDR enabled for the HDMI input or app so HDR streams display correctly on supported TVs.
Sharpness Keep it low. High sharpness exaggerates compression artefacts that are normal in streamed video.

Setting names vary by brand. For a longer routine, including app updates and storage on TVs, read managing IPTV on a Smart TV.

When a streaming stick beats the built-in app

Smart TV apps are convenient, but TV makers stop updating software after a few years, and budget TVs often have slow processors. A streaming stick can be the better choice when:

  • your TV is more than five or six years old and apps feel sluggish;
  • the TV’s app store has no IPTV player you like;
  • you want the same app and remote on every TV in the house;
  • you want 4K but the TV’s built-in apps struggle with HEVC streams.

In those cases, compare IPTV on Firestick or an Android TV box from the Android guide. Your IPTVMGR subscription works the same way on either.

Frequently asked questions

Can I watch IPTV on a Smart TV without a box?

Yes, if your TV’s app store offers a suitable IPTV player. Samsung, LG, Android TV and Google TV sets all have options. If yours does not, a streaming stick such as a Fire TV device is an inexpensive alternative; see IPTV for Firestick.

Why does my TV app ask for a MAC address?

Some Smart TV players activate a specific TV instead of using a username and password. Send the MAC address or device key shown in the app to support, and they link your subscription to that TV.

Is IPTV on a Smart TV slower than on a streaming stick?

It can be. Built-in TV processors are often slower than a current streaming stick, and TV apps receive fewer updates. On a newer TV with a wired connection, the built-in app is usually smooth.

I bought a new TV. Do I need a new subscription?

No. Install the app on the new TV and sign in, or send the new device details if the app uses activation. Device management explains the switch.
