How devices connect

Two ways an IPTV device signs in

Which one your player app uses decides what happens when you add or replace a device, so it is worth knowing before you start.

Login-based

You type a username, password and server address (often called Xtream Codes login), or paste an M3U playlist URL. The details are not tied to the hardware.

New device: install the app and sign in. Nothing to change on the account.

Device-based

The app shows a MAC address or device key, and the subscription is linked to that specific device. Common on some Smart TV apps.

New device: send the new MAC or key to support so the link can be moved.

Not sure which you have? IPTV login types explained shows how to tell.

Add

Adding a new IPTV device

  1. Pick a player app

Choose an IPTV player that is available for the device. Support can recommend one.

  2. Install and open it

Install from the device’s app store, or follow the setup guide for your device.

  3. Sign in

Enter your login details, or send the device’s MAC address or key to support for device-based apps.

  4. Name and test it

Give the device a clear name, then play a few channels to check picture and sound.

Replace

Replacing an old device

Set up the new device first, so you are never left without a working screen.

  1. Set up the new device

Install the player app on the new TV, stick or phone before retiring the old one.

  2. Send the new details

For device-based apps, message support with the new MAC address or device key.

  3. Sign out of the old one

Log out and delete the app on the old device, especially if it is leaving the house.

  4. Update your device list

Remove the old device so your list reflects the screens you really use.

Maintenance

Keep your devices healthy

Plenty of “IPTV problems” are really tired devices. Four habits prevent most of them.

Restart weekly

Sticks and TV boxes run for weeks without a true restart. A power cycle clears memory and background tasks.

Keep storage free

Low storage slows player apps down. Clear the app cache and remove apps you no longer use.

Update carefully

Keep the player app and system software current, but not in the hour before a live event.

Mind the connection

Use Ethernet for the main TV if you can, or keep streaming sticks close to the router.

Frequently asked questions

How many devices can I install IPTV on?

You can install the player app on as many household devices as you like. What is limited is the number of connections: how many of those devices can play at the same time.

What is a MAC address and why do some IPTV apps need it?

A MAC address is a hardware identifier for a device’s network connection. Some IPTV apps activate a specific device using its MAC address or an app-generated device key instead of a username and password. When you change that device, the activation needs to move too.

My new TV says the device is not activated. What now?

That usually means the app uses device-based activation that is still linked to your old device. Send the new device’s MAC address or device key to support on WhatsApp and they will move it across.

Should I remove old devices from my account?

Yes. Signing out and removing devices you no longer use keeps your device list accurate and makes sure an old TV or stick cannot use one of your connections.
