All three use the same subscription. The difference is where and how you watch.

Phones and tablets

Watch anywhere in the house or on the go. Touch-friendly player apps with picture-in-picture on many devices.

Android TV boxes

Plug into any TV’s HDMI port. Many have an Ethernet port, which makes them a strong choice for the main TV.

Built into many Sony, TCL, Hisense and Philips sets. The Smart TV guide covers these.

Setup

How to set up IPTV on Android

  1. Open Google Play

Search for the IPTV player support recommended. Check the developer name and recent reviews before installing.

  2. Install and allow what is needed

A player needs network access. Be cautious with apps asking for contacts, SMS or location, which a video player does not need.

  3. Sign in

Enter your login details or playlist URL. On a phone, copy and paste them from the WhatsApp chat to avoid typing mistakes.

  4. Set your preferences

Choose the video player inside the app, turn on the programme guide and set Wi-Fi-only streaming if you want to save mobile data.

On the go

Watching IPTV on mobile data

Streaming video is one of the fastest ways to use a mobile data allowance. Exact usage depends on the stream, but these ballpark figures are a helpful guide.

If your player app has a Wi-Fi-only option, turn it on, and pick a lower quality in the app when you are away from home. The same subscription and login details work on Wi-Fi and mobile data.

Approximate data use

Standard definition
Under 1 GB per hour
HD (720p–1080p)
Roughly 1.5–3 GB per hour
4K
Roughly 7 GB per hour or more

Estimates for typical video streams. Your app and stream may use more or less.

Getting the best from an Android TV box

Android TV boxes vary more than any other IPTV device. Some are excellent; others ship with old software and never receive an update. A few things make the difference:

  • Certified software. Boxes running official Android TV or Google TV get Google Play and security updates.
  • Wired network. Use the Ethernet port for the steadiest stream, especially for 4K.
  • Enough memory. Boxes with very little RAM struggle to run a player and the programme guide together.
  • Regular restarts. A weekly restart clears memory, just as on a Firestick.

Frequently asked questions

Is there an IPTV app for Android?

There are many IPTV player apps on Google Play. IPTVMGR works with compatible players, and support recommends one based on whether you use a phone, tablet or TV box.

Can I watch IPTV on my phone and TV at the same time?

Yes, if your plan has at least two connections. Each device playing at the same moment uses one connection. See user management for how to plan connections.

Can I cast IPTV from Android to my TV?

Many player apps support Chromecast, which sends the stream to a Chromecast or Google TV device. For regular TV viewing, installing the app on a TV device directly usually gives a more stable picture.

What should I look for in an Android TV box?

Prefer a box running official Android TV or Google TV, with regular security updates, an Ethernet port, at least 2 GB of RAM and enough storage for apps. The Android management guide explains why.
